Arisa White is a Cave Canem graduate poet and her work has been nominated for the NAACP Image Awards, California Book Awards, and Wheatley Book Awards. Her recent poetry collection You're the Most Beautiful Thing That Happened was a nominee for the 29th Lambda Literary Awards. As the creator of the Beautiful Things Project, Arisa curates cultural events and artistic collaborations that center narratives of queer and trans people of color. She serves on the board of directors for Nomadic Press and is an assistant professor at Colby College.

More like an encyclopedia.. but it does have great info. I bought this on a recommendation. I would've returned it but Amazon has made that more difficult these days.

With a story line steeped in American history and numerous text features that call out important concepts and terms needed to discuss racism and other social forces that continue the oppression of various social groups, Adkins gives us a text and a tool for teaching for positive change. As we launch into Black History Month, and #BlackLivesMatterAtSchool I can think of no better lesson delivered as both a readable story and accessible text for the next generation of social activist. Her-story is worth knowing!
