I'm sorry ladies, I do not agree with many of the negative interpretations I have been reading. For starters, I don't believe I have encountered the word "uterus" at all in this book, but if I am wrong, I will stand corrected. May I add that I am a 60 year old crone, who has never procreated, by choice, and has well undergone menopause. I feel no less valuable than a fertile maiden looking forward to what life has to offer her in youth. The references to the womb, menstruation and anatomical functions that only women can share may very well be used in a metaphorical sense. In "About This Book", I believe the author is bluntly telling her side of what to expect, or not to expect. Her views are very avant-garde and reflect the women's movement of today. Hence the uses of words like "pussy". We now use these words to make a point. We have pussy hats and pussy tee shirts and pussy power. This is not to say one is powerless without a pussy; it is to define women as people and not second class citizens. By using a word or phrase that seems crude, we are attempting to make it less offensive. These are parts of our bodies that men have created derogatory names for in order to keep us subservient by using the tactics of fear and shame. By using these words ourselves and not being afraid or insulted by them, we begin to create an alchemical affect. We begin to own them proudly. I frequently wear a tee shirt proudly proclaiming “UNAPOLOGETIC FEMINIST BITCH”. Again, the word bitch, literally meaning female dog is assigned to women who misbehave in a “man’s world”. Many of us would like to change that.I believe this book is about empowerment, accepting that being a woman is in itself a beautiful thing.Ms. Lister seems to be reminding us that we do not need approval from anyone but ourselves, while following a path of the Goddess. If anyone is seeking a book on how to be a Traditional Witch, there exists a plethora of books ranging from overly simplified and “fluffy” material to actual High Magick (not recommended for beginners).I very much like this book and what it represents. Think outside the box (pun intended) when reading this book. Don’t get all hung up on your uterus or lack of. Perhaps the first step in being witchy is to accept all aspects of the feminine as divine.I do not mind criticism for my opinion but please don't waste time on grammatical errors, etc.

This was the first witch book I picked up as part of my initial research as a "baby" witch. I was sorely disappointed for several reasons. For one thing, the book opens with a disclaimer that the writer does not care to be politically correct. That set off some warning bells but I figured, hey, I'm a white woman, how offensive could it be to me?It turns out all witch powers come from your uterus, and your connection to your uterus. So someone like me, with a dysfunctional one? Guess I'm out of luck. However it isn't just one section of the book that talks about this uterus power. At least every chapter it's referenced. Which wore me down to a level of insecurity I thought I overcame years ago.Aside from the PC and uterus issues, the book is just written in a strange format. The writer accents some sentences by bolding/centering them in the page, but this is used to often it just seems like there isn't a format. Much of the book is anecdotes or stories of the writers witch escapades. Regularly the writer attempts to convince the reader that she is a powerful strong woman witch, with a heavy implication that feminism is linked with being a witch. Considering I'm a feminist I didn't disagree, but it was almost... patronizing? As if the writer assumes the reader isn't already at all aware of feminism, and therefore the book spends a lot of time trying to beef up the readers self image/confidence/feminist level. Again, not necessarily a bad thing, but it was a waste of my time to read this stuff over and over again.Of the whole book I only found about 5-10 pages useful or interesting, so my conclusion is that this book was simply not for me.If you are:-New to feminism-Cis female WITH a healthy functioning uterus-Interested in hearing about how strong and great you are-Interesting in hearing about how cool the writer is-Are already pretty well learned about magic/wicca/paganismCongrats! This book is for you! However, if you:-Want to learn about magic/wicca/paganism-Think trans women are women-Have a dysfunctional uterus-Are a dude-Are sensitive to culture appropriationI would steer clear. When I ordered this book (because the cover looked nice, tbh) I also ordered "The Wicca Handbook" by Eileen Holland, and boy is that a complete 180 from "Witch". The handbook was what I was ACTUALLY looking for, dense with great information, not condescending, objective information instead of subjective. If "The Wicca Handbook" is an encyclopedia, then "Witch" is your weird aunt trying to hype you up about her way of life. You politely listen to her experiences, get a pinch on the cheek, and then go back to studying what you really wanted to learn.

I couldn't put the book down, especially once I got further into it. My favorite chapters of the book started at chapter 5; I really enjoyed reading about the history of witches, as well as the chapters where she dove a bit further into what it means to be a witch. I have to say I really did learn so much and I feel like the author opened my eyes. I also liked reading that you don't have to follow any kind of rule or belief in order to be a witch, that if you're a woman owning your power and trusting yourself, you're a witch. Not to keep rambling, but I was raised in a religious family and was taught that witchcraft was of the occult and satanic. This book made me realize that witchcraft is nothing of the sort and that it's all been twisted by religious institutions. I now see witchcraft simply as feminine spirituality. Women are very connected with the moon and with the process of creation, so witchcraft is simply a woman connecting with her true source and nature.Loved the book, very eye-opening.
