I had the privilege of meeting Shawn recently at the cat show in Auburn Ma. What a lovely, personable man. And his book, is well worth the read. You can clearly see his love for Kitty, and how Kitty became such a part of his life. It's an Everyman story, only about cats. Shawn's life story is interwoven, very skillfully with Kitty's. In fact originally Shawn wrote down the story for himself, and it was so popular with his family and friends that he decided to publish it. As a life long cat lover, I felt that Shawn had written MY story. Buy this book, you won't be disappointed!!!
The simple and heartwarming story of how a stray cat picked his human companion and changed his life for good.Anyone who has had a special animal companion will relate to this tale (tail?) about how a pet can heal us from heartache, see us through difficult times, and improve our lives.On a personal level, it reminded me of my first cat, Dumas, who showed up unexpectedly as a tiny, sassy, ridiculous 8 week old ball of fur and gave me a reason to live at a dark time in my life.
I loved The Kitty! It touched me in every way, it mad me laugh, it made me cry, it made me feel sorrow and joy for Shawn. I would recommend this book to anyone, especially people who don't know what it's like to have a cat or pet of any kind that loves you unconditionally. Nothing but the best of luck to Shawn!
I am a dog guy. I have five. However, this story had me thinking of trying a cat. Not that I will actually do such while having my dogs. But Shawn's story touched me in a way I can relate to my love for my dogs. I came to know Kitty as if I had met him. My heart was touched in more than one way with this story. I saw a review stating this book was more of a pamphlet while another review said it felt like a preview of a larger story that needed to be told. I grant you both reviews were correct; it is not a long story, not a full-size book as one may expect a book to be. But it packed a wallop with its emotions and impact of human and feline interaction. I also agree you are left wanting more. But isn't that what a great story leaves us wanting? I love this book! By buying this book you are not getting shortchanged by receiving a pamphlet. You are supporting a love story. An honest story of companionship. A story of two friends who meant the world to each other!
I loved the way the cat came in and took over (don't they always) and how the man didn't really know how much he needed the cat :) I like being able to identify with the person and cat and it was easy to do that. I once told a good friend of mine whose wife (she later divorced him) forced him to get rid of the cat as it liked him better than her, "you should have kept the cat" As it turned out that is often the case :)
Absolutely loved this book. It is ironic how we think that we rescue cats, but they really rescue us. They seem to always be there for us and when something is wrong with us. Sometimes they just show up like angels in our lives...just when we need them. Kitty was always there, showing unconditional love and never complaining about not feeling well. The problem with our pets is that we outlive them and there is a void in a special part of our heart. I hope there is a sequel because I was left feeling that I wanted to know more about Kitty.
Beautifully written from the heart! Cats are such special gentle loving creatures and Shawn's writing of Kitty's impact on his life through a difficult time proves this. A wonderful read for anyone with a heart for animals **********
