When a friendly cast of characters turns Dynomike's sad story upside down, his Friendsgiving is saved and his happiness is returned. I liked the wacky illustration style and that the author jumped on the new trend in the US to have a Friendsgiving rather than just a Thanksgiving - a holiday with friends when family can't be close by. Worth a read, but don't expect the traditional Thanksgiving fare here, either in food or story style. This is more of a comic book but with a wholesome message.
Very cute book. It had a lovely little moral pointed out at the end, too. My children will enjoy reading this.
It was funny and excellent rhyming book, very clever.
With Thanksgiving Day fast approaching, this is the perfect book for children. It shows them how important it truly is to think of others less fortunate. I would add that this is a wonderful lesson for every day of the year, as well. The author has written this book for ages 3 - 9 and P - 3. The illustrations are well done and bright and colorful, as well. (See the one above for an example). It also rhymes on most pages but not all.The food discussion starts while the four are still in school and Jack Brussels, Winky Pinky and Spunky all give their favorite item for Turkey Day. Poor Dynomike leaves for the holiday break but feels sad and alone.I appreciate the fact that before they ate, Dynomike said a few words of thanks. This is an important lesson for the little ones to learn at an early age. I also liked the humor throughout the book even the sound of the doorbell made me smile....'Dinga Dong'! Talk about an attention-getter! And, no spoilers here but Dynomike does play a trick on his friends near the end of the book.The lessons in the story are to be grateful for your friends and help others when they are in need. Never too young to learn either one.Most highly recommended.Please note that I borrowed this book with the Kindle Unlimited Program.
This is a lovely story celebrating what Thanksgiving is REALLY about.You see, everyone in Dynomike’s class is excited, all they can do is talk about food all the time. They can’t wait for the home bell to ring, and love chattering about the tasty things their family enjoy on Thanksgiving Day.Dynomike listens to them talking about all the delicious treats they are looking forward to on this special holiday, and feels sad. For him, in his house there will be no turkey, pumpkin pies, corn fritters or other lovely treats eat.He goes very quiet, and his friends wonder what is the matter? So he explains, it’s because it has been a difficult year for his mom, and they haven’t any money to buy lots of lovely food.At home, all is sad, and then on Thanksgiving night there is a knock at the door.Who could it be?His friends arrive with lot of delicious treats for him, and his mum.And so, in the true spirit of Thanksgiving, they all have a very special dinner, and joining hands around the table Dynomike, with all his special friends, give thanks to the Lord for all he provides. Then afterwards they have lots of fun, and Dynomike is so happy because he has had the best ‘Friendsgiving’ ever.I downloaded this super rhyming book with my Kindle Unlimited subscription and read it to my grandsons when they came around. They loved it and can’t wait to read more of Dynomike’s adventures.
Like all the Dynomike books, Friendsgiving features bright colors and fun rhymes. In this one, Dynomike's friends discuss the foods that they will enjoy for Thanksgiving, but Dynomike explains that his mom lost her job and they won't be enjoying a feast. The book does a nice job of showing how Dynomike and his mom feel about this. Dynomike's friends come to the rescue with lots of dinner and dessert options; young children will enjoy the silly names for some of the foods. In the end, Dynomike gives thanks for both friends and food.Some of the lines are a bit awkward to read aloud (as if rhyming sometimes took precedent over clarity), but I liked that there was a concrete display of how kids and their families can help others, especially at the holidays. The problem of a parent losing a job is one that many children will relate to, and for those that don't, it's a a good introduction to empathy.
This is a great book to read at Thanksgiving, but really any time because it is a story of Friendship. The characters are fun, the story has a message while also being cute and the colorful illustrations are well done. There is an important lesson told in a humorous way appealing to little ones three to early elementary showing us it is wonderful to help others, which is wonderful to learn in youth. This story is awesome to read aloud. This is a fun story with an interesting twist on Thanksgiving food making the day special for everyone.
My kiddo and I loved this book! This book tells a sweet little story of a friend in need and friends who come to help. For me, Thanksgiving is such a wonderful time to talk to my kid about sharing and caring and doing for others. I think the 'Friendsgiving' is a great way to show how to be empathetic and kind to those who may need a little extra help at any time. This story opened up a great conversation about people we know and those who might need help, even if they don't tell us. A great, quick read and a fun way to learn an important lesson.
