If you don't have time to study, think through and review the lessons and do the "homework" at the end of each chapter, this book is going to be painful and easily out of control, by which I mean you will probably be lost unless you keep track of the materials covered in the previous chapters. Though I completed reading the entire book, I was only able to keep up with the first few chapters, reviewing and doing the exercise, and they are not easy. If I were to grade myself, I believe I barely got a C perhaps because I wasn't serious enough since I wasn't using this book in a more disciplined classroom environment. I wish I did. With this said, I have to say Geisler did an excellent job. This is an intro to logic with Christian overtone, a solid foundation for rational apologetics.

This book is not meant for casual reading (you have to think to understand this one), but it can help enlighten the casual reader (who does not want to study) if he/she skims through the first 90 pages (which require some study of terms and differences)and then coasts through the rest. Geisler and Brooks are Christian thinkers who understand thinking and logic, and they present the major components of logical thinking in a Christian context.The authors explain syllogisms and differentiate between a valid conclusion and an invalid conclusion. They also distinguish validity from actual truth (valid conclusions are not always actually true in reality; they are merely logically based on the premises presented). That's the stuff addressed in the first 90 pages.But the best part (and most enjoyable for me)began with chapter 6, "Informal Fallacies." This section was lighter reading. Since this is an election year, it would be a study in itself to compare political commentaries and supposed answers to questions with the logic presented in this volume!Since the authors are serious students of Scripture and Geisler is a celebrated Theologian, most of their examples come from familiar Bible texts or theological issues. Although I have stronger convictions about Sovereign Grace than do the authors, I really found their examples useful in the realm of hermenutics (Bible interpretation). They are solid defenders of an inerrant Bible and ethical interpretation.If you want to brush up your thinking skills, this might be a good place to start. "Fit Bodies, Fat Minds" by Os Guiness persuades us that the use of the mind has been neglected in evangelical communities, and Geisler and Brooks have written a work to help properly activate those little grey cells. Not really an easy read, and not for everyone, but a meaningful mind stretcher.

This book is an excellent introduction into the basic formulas and terminology of logic. All basics are covered: Syllogism, inductive, deductive, dilemma's, and so on. The reviewer from Vancover, WA, who unfairly rates this book low, brings up that Godel and Brouwer have demonstrated the inability of logic (paraphased);But didn't they use logic to reach that conclusion? - yes they did. Without logical thinking, all our statements and beliefs become nonsensical! Either logic is used or abused.Geisler and Brooks have written a great text and its only real (possible) flaw is that it is written from a conservative Christian viewpoint. Myself a Christian, I do see problems with people who will unfairly rate this book low or not give it a fair reading because of the overtly Christian stance. With that said, this is also the book's strength, because many Christians need to learn logic and may turn to this book because of the Geilser and Brook's religious position.The chapters on "informal fallacies" and "scientific thinking" are extremely well written for the primer level. This book is great from start to finish.

Come let us reason: An introduction to logical thinking by Norman Geisler and Ronald Brooks (1990) was more detailed than a similar book, Being Logical. I appreciated the additional depth, though Being Logical will be a great go to resource. With that said, the first several chapters of Come let us reason were difficult to understand. The complex notation of categorical syllogisms were challenging for me to grasp. As he began to flesh these thoughts out in the later chapters, however, I really found the initial information to be an important foundation. I will probably need to read through this book a few times to understand logic and be able to spot it in daily life. All in all, the authors not only establish the importance of logic for the Christian but the inherent logic of the Bible.

Very well written, and easy to follow.

Though I don't describe myself as a Christian anymore, the book has helped provoke many of the faith to think more logically, which will only add to their credibility.

This is a challenging and worthy introduction to logical thinking. My first experience diving into logic and Norman Geisler has presented the information in a way I am able to grasp.

After nearly 4 years of Instant Pot cooking, it takes a lot to persuade me to purchase a new cookbook at full price. I'll buy a discounted Kindle edition, but seldom buy new paper editions. This one seems worth the cost. It is large, with over 350 recipes, many of them covering two pages. It also claims to be written for every current model of Instant Pot, including the MAX. I usually cook for two people and own both a 6qt Duo (Thing 1) and 3qt Duo (Thing 2). Although I have no difficulty scaling recipes to fit Thing 2, it's nice to find a cookbook that includes adjustments for it. More importantly, the recipes are presented in a completely new way.Here's my TL:DR review; comprehensive cookbook with recipes to appeal to beginners and experienced IP cooks, has a good balance of plant-based, meat-centric, classic, and more interesting recipes. Has timing/instructions for every IP model, including slow cooker mode for some recipes. Has a few sous vide recipes for the MAX, also steaming recipes (often lacking in other cookbooks). Easy-to-read font size and colors. Has unusual chapter organization that won't appeal to everyone, index should be split. Some unusual techniques not often seen in other IP cookbooks. Not many photos. No nutritional info. Includes "Road Map" or master recipes that include customization options. Try the All-American Chili Road Map on p.114, you don't need to brown the beef, and it really works. I recommend the book if you don't mind the chapter organization.And the long-winded review: As I said, this cookbook is big, and when you first open it, I strongly encourage you to read the Introduction. In it, you'll find the why's and how's of using the book. You won't find IP operating instructions or general timing charts. Everything in this book is devoted to the recipes, with no filler. In the Introduction, the authors show how to read the recipes, how to read the timing charts for each recipe, and explain why the book is organized as it is. it also lists special items such as a 7-inch springform pan and 1-cup ramekins, that you'll need for some of the recipes. The authors do not recommend specific brands. I seldom read IP cookbook Introductions, but I'm glad I took the time to read this one, it has really helpful information that gives you a better grasp on the central premise of the book. Each Chapter also opens with 2-3 pages of FAQs and tips about using the recipes in the chapter. I recommend reading them, too, more than once. The book is printed on heavy, ivory stock with black type. There are a couple of insets with glossy, mostly full page, photos of about 35 recipes.Chapters include some of the usual suspects, like "Breakfast and Brunch", "Rice and Grains", and "Desserts". But it also has some very different Chapters, like "All Things Pulled", "Pasta Casseroles" (which aren't necessarily casseroles), "Shorter Braises and Stews", "Longer Braises and Stews" and "All Things Curried". You won't find chapters for Beef, Pork, Chicken, Fish, etc... I'm not sure I agree with their organization, but it's not completely off the wall and I'll no doubt grow accustomed to it in time. It does mean you'll get more use from the Index than you might with other cookbooks. The Index includes both ingredients and recipes by title. The book also contains a set of "Road Map" recipes scattered throughout (more about them below) that are listed in boldface in the Index. This is fine, except that they're listed multiple times and I find the bold type draws my eye too much. I'd be happier if these were split into a separate Index. One nice touch, the ToC includes a recipe list for each Chapter (in the Kindle edition they're clickable).The recipes are well-written (see my photos of a 2-page recipe and a single-page recipe), with large easy-to-read type. Ingredients are in boldface, timing is in small charts with red headers. Step numbers are also red, and at the top of the page are red tags like Vegan, Gluten-Free, Fast/Slow (these recipes include slow cooker timing), and so on. A complete list of tags and their meaning is given in the Introduction. Each recipe also includes a sidebar called "Beyond". Here you'll find necessary modifications (if any) for 3qt and 8qt models, ingredient and serving suggestions, and sometimes a recipe for a sauce, or something completely unexpected. All recipes are written to fit a 6qt Instant Pot and include the number of servings. Most recipes will work in 3, 6 or 8 quart models, although minor modifications may be needed. Most often that will be scaling the recipe in half to fit a 3 quart. There are a handful that won't fit in a 3qt, a few that won't work in a 8qt, and some that will only work in a 6 quart. There is no nutritional information.Tonight I cooked All-American Chili, a "Road Map" recipe. Road Maps are master recipes that call for some set ingredients and let you choose others from a list of options, using stated amounts. This is wonderful for a newer cook or one who likes to follow recipes, because she can customize a recipe and "make it her own" without worrying that her chosen ingredient won't work. In this one, the ingredients you choose are the type of allium, type of chili powder, type of beans, type of meat, and so on. Specific ingredients include cumin, oregano, diced tomatoes, tomato paste, and a few more. The "Beyond" sidebar includes suggestions to amp up the heat, how to add more veggies, some topping suggestions, and an unexpected recipe to turn it into a Chili Casserole. I chose this particular recipe for my first test because it includes 2 unusual instructions. The meat is crumbled raw into the pot after sautéing is completed, and tomato paste is added after releasing pressure. I use both ingredients in my own ground beef chili, so I adjusted all of my usual ingredients to the stated amounts so I could compare the two directly. I've never made mine in a pressure cooker because after sweating onions and garlic, and blooming spices, I cook the tomato paste for a few minutes, then add the beef and cook it. I don't use a lot of liquid and have always been a little afraid of getting a burn notice. I'm pleased to report that this Road Map reproduced my chili perfectly, but took less time and more importantly, a lot less hand's-on time. Instead of 20 minutes of active cooking before switching to simmer for an hour, I spent about 5 minutes cooking, added everything else except tomato paste, then set it to pressure cook for 8 minutes with a quick release. After stirring in the tomato paste, it only needed another 10 minutes of resting time. Total time was around 40 minutes, but the true Wow factor for me was the greatly reduced active cooking time. The beef was a little more tender than in my stovetop version, too, another win. And it didn't burn.I was planning to wait until I'd cooked a few more recipes before posting a review, but the Chili used such an unusual technique and worked so well that I wanted to share it right away. So why 4 stars? Because of the decidedly odd Chapter organization and those darned boldface Road Map recipes in the Index. One last thing; while cooking the chili I had to weight the pages to keep the book open, but while referencing the book to write this review, the pages began to lay more naturally, as you can see in my photos.

So it doesn't matter which one you have, the recipes will work. The only ones that will not work in ALL pots are the sous-vide ones, that are designed to work only in the Max. But considering that there are 350 recipes in the whole book, and only eight of them are sous-vide, that leaves you with 342 to try, if you have no plans to get the Max once it comes out.3. Many of the recipes can be adapted for the 3 quart Mini. Usually, they can just be halved, but if there are other considerations, or the recipe would not be successful if halved, they will tell you this.4. Easily available ingredients. A trip to your local supermarket will mostly likely provide everything you need to make these recipes. You will not have to hunt down an ethnic grocery store, or order ingredients online.5. Kids and adults alike will enjoy these recipes. No "weird" ingredients, but still plenty of flavor, and you can adjust the seasonings to you and your family's tastes.6. The "road maps". These give amounts of types of ingredients (cheese, meat, quick-cooking veggies, root/longer-cooking veggies, etc. You can mix and natch these based on what you like, or have on hand, or what you can find in the store. These lone may well be worth the price of the book, as they will help you save money by using what you have, what is on sale, whatever.7. Do you need visuals? While the book does not have a photo of every recipe in it (that would have driven up the cot of the book), the authors have just set up a YouTube channel with videos of recipes from the book, with more being added. Do a search on YouTube for "Cooking with Bruce & Mark" to find it.8. The recipes work and taste great, at least all I have tried so far have. You really can't go wrong here!

This is one of the best Instant Pot cookbooks on the market. Recipes are teriffic and the instructions are clear and precise, also giving variations when applicable. At first I was not sure if this would be the best book for a beginning Instant Pot user, but working with some of the recipes, they leave nothing to chance, no questions unanswered. An outstanding cookbook.

This is a great book for an unbiased, scholarly investigation into the Quran. Finally we have a resource for studying the Quran from a historical-critical point of view and not from a muslim apologist or anti-muslim crusader. This book is for those seeking detailed, unvarnished textual analysis of the Quran. I hope this will be the beginning of more books from this author and others who want to help get to the bottom of how, when and where the Quran was really written.

This is a disappointing book that could have served as an excellent introduction to the Historical-Critical analysis of the Qur'an. Over the last few years, analysis of the Qur'an has revealed several interesting ideas including those of Gabriel Said Reynolds The Emergence of Islam, Carlos Segovia The Quranic Noah, Stephen Shoemaker Death of a Prophet, Daniel Beck The Evolution of the Early Qur'an, and Fred Donner Muhammad and the Origins of Islam. These texts suggest that the Quran was written and compiled between the 550s and 710s, based heavily on Aramaic and Syriac Christian writings, in a Christian not a pagan location, in Palestine rather than in Mecca and Medina, and by a community that only became Islamic in the 690s. Sinai downplays all these important arguments by any method possibly and so 're-invents the wheel' in arguing for a traditional account without using historical-critical methods.

I think what other reviewers failed to acknowledge is this book is introductory. Sinai's work doesn't cover every single factor it could have, but it covers some of the most important main points: What factors have caused scholars to believe surahs are Medinan versus Meccan? What can reliably be attributed to Muhammad, and what might be later interpolation? What influences were there on Qur'anic interpolation? Without this information, more scholarly works (such as Gabriel Reynolds' "The Qur'an and the Bible") would be overwhelming.If you're looking for a full introduction to Islamic thought, this isn't the book to read. This book is an introduction to Qur'anic critical scholarship. A particular reviewer claims that Sinai gives the impression that the only scholarly opinions that matter are those of white people who speak European languages. This simply isn't true. Sinai outrightly disagrees with many of the scholars he refers to. For example, he explicitly states that he doesn't entirely agree with the chronological scheme of Weil and Noldeke, though he openly admits the merits of their work. He also disagrees with Crone--and others--who disbelieve modern Mecca was the actual site of Muhammad's original revelations. However, he refers to these scholars because he is introducing the reader to historical-critical scholarship. It's obvious he'll refer to European scholars, and do so extensively.As an Islamic studies student, I can vouch for the credibility of this book's contents. This is a must-have introduction. It may not cover all aspects of Qur'anic sciences (I'd recommend Recep Dogan's works on tafsir and fiqh), but it is a great primer. It's a technical read, so you can't expect to sit down and read it through in a day or two (unless you're already well-read in these topics, beyond the need for this type of book).

I expected a more nuanced approach from an established scholar. Instead Sinai gives one the impression that the only studies of the Quran one needs to investigate in order to understand the text are those written by white people in European languages. While many studies continue to be written on the history, language, style and themes of the Quran in Arabic, Persian and other languages. Sinai does not include a single one of these texts in his bibliography, such as Kuttab al-Nabi, "Scribes of the Prophet" by Mustafa al-Azami, which details the role that some companions of the Prophet are said to have had in compiling the Quran during his lifetime. It is also quite remarkable that he leaves out Azami's book on the collection of the Quran in English.Sinai is also not honest about the importance of the historical material regarding the Quran and likens it to the material regarding the collection of the Bible without acknowledging that material regarding the Quran was written within two hundred years of the origin of the text, while that regarding the Old Testament was written over 1000 years of the origin of the text. This makes for some comparisons that are quite misleading for those who do not know the traditions well. The book may still be better than anything else that is out there in book form in the Euro American academy. Nonetheless, it illustrates how far the western study of the origins of Islam has to go if it is to be uprooted from colonialist and collonializing assumptions.

This is the best productivity book I have ever read. The concepts in this book are easy to digest and profound to apply. I listened to it three times and have read it twice so that I can fully absorb all its wisdom. The authors present strategies to become more productive in a sustainable way, such as focusing on process oriented goals (game changer), and this has transformed my relationship with my own productivity and is changing my life. I cannot recommend it enough.

The cover to this book is very intriguing, it states "Start Every Day with More Focus, Confidence, and Energy - by learning to Set the Right Priorities," and "8 Ways to Retrain Your Mind to Optimize Performance at Work and in Life." When I read that, it was an instant buy-in for me. I've read blogs online and heard from people about how to organize my life, and the tips were usually sub-par or not concrete. When I received Organize Tomorrow Today in my mailbox, I was very enthusiastic about getting started on the book. I set a goal for myself to take down notes on each chapter, and I did so. Dr. Jason Selk and Tom Bartown teached me everything I need to know about developing a Performance Mentality. Starting with Chapter One, they talk about how to organize your most important tasks into your "3 Most Important and your One Must," and they gave studies of why this is so effective. That technique I used the same day and over the next week that I was reading the book, and it taught me the to think Priority and Time Maximization. That was only Chapter One, the rest is unbelievable with what you get. There's a lot to gain by reading this book. It deserves my five star rating. Add this to your list, you won't be disappointed.

The title is a bit misleading. It isn't just about organizing tomorrow, but how to revolutionize your life!I am already benefitting from the strategies that have been suggested. One thing I like is that most of them require a matter of mere MINUTES each day to implement.The strategies provoke very high leverage changes that will alter the results you get...BUT, strangely enough, without focusing on results per se, or in the problems you're trying to solve.I read this book twice and now, these changes are really making a difference in all aspects of my life.Do yourself the greatest of favors and read...AND IMPLEMENT what appears in this book.

Loved this book, all 8 topics are very usable. Most of the ideas I've read elsewhere, but the author's did a great job using different analogies and examples that seemed to make each idea really stick. Lots of great psychology usable in all facets of life.

Follow it and you will be better prepared and more confident when you show up for work or for a fun adventure. Read in conjunction with Paul Allen's book on organization.

A wonderful book. Teachs the importance of prioritizing and writing down the most important things to do the day before. Presents new model of getting a better life, focusing on task instead of results. Overall, it worths reading.
