This is a great book for an unbiased, scholarly investigation into the Quran. Finally we have a resource for studying the Quran from a historical-critical point of view and not from a muslim apologist or anti-muslim crusader. This book is for those seeking detailed, unvarnished textual analysis of the Quran. I hope this will be the beginning of more books from this author and others who want to help get to the bottom of how, when and where the Quran was really written.

This is a disappointing book that could have served as an excellent introduction to the Historical-Critical analysis of the Qur'an. Over the last few years, analysis of the Qur'an has revealed several interesting ideas including those of Gabriel Said Reynolds The Emergence of Islam, Carlos Segovia The Quranic Noah, Stephen Shoemaker Death of a Prophet, Daniel Beck The Evolution of the Early Qur'an, and Fred Donner Muhammad and the Origins of Islam. These texts suggest that the Quran was written and compiled between the 550s and 710s, based heavily on Aramaic and Syriac Christian writings, in a Christian not a pagan location, in Palestine rather than in Mecca and Medina, and by a community that only became Islamic in the 690s. Sinai downplays all these important arguments by any method possibly and so 're-invents the wheel' in arguing for a traditional account without using historical-critical methods.

I think what other reviewers failed to acknowledge is this book is introductory. Sinai's work doesn't cover every single factor it could have, but it covers some of the most important main points: What factors have caused scholars to believe surahs are Medinan versus Meccan? What can reliably be attributed to Muhammad, and what might be later interpolation? What influences were there on Qur'anic interpolation? Without this information, more scholarly works (such as Gabriel Reynolds' "The Qur'an and the Bible") would be overwhelming.If you're looking for a full introduction to Islamic thought, this isn't the book to read. This book is an introduction to Qur'anic critical scholarship. A particular reviewer claims that Sinai gives the impression that the only scholarly opinions that matter are those of white people who speak European languages. This simply isn't true. Sinai outrightly disagrees with many of the scholars he refers to. For example, he explicitly states that he doesn't entirely agree with the chronological scheme of Weil and Noldeke, though he openly admits the merits of their work. He also disagrees with Crone--and others--who disbelieve modern Mecca was the actual site of Muhammad's original revelations. However, he refers to these scholars because he is introducing the reader to historical-critical scholarship. It's obvious he'll refer to European scholars, and do so extensively.As an Islamic studies student, I can vouch for the credibility of this book's contents. This is a must-have introduction. It may not cover all aspects of Qur'anic sciences (I'd recommend Recep Dogan's works on tafsir and fiqh), but it is a great primer. It's a technical read, so you can't expect to sit down and read it through in a day or two (unless you're already well-read in these topics, beyond the need for this type of book).

I expected a more nuanced approach from an established scholar. Instead Sinai gives one the impression that the only studies of the Quran one needs to investigate in order to understand the text are those written by white people in European languages. While many studies continue to be written on the history, language, style and themes of the Quran in Arabic, Persian and other languages. Sinai does not include a single one of these texts in his bibliography, such as Kuttab al-Nabi, "Scribes of the Prophet" by Mustafa al-Azami, which details the role that some companions of the Prophet are said to have had in compiling the Quran during his lifetime. It is also quite remarkable that he leaves out Azami's book on the collection of the Quran in English.Sinai is also not honest about the importance of the historical material regarding the Quran and likens it to the material regarding the collection of the Bible without acknowledging that material regarding the Quran was written within two hundred years of the origin of the text, while that regarding the Old Testament was written over 1000 years of the origin of the text. This makes for some comparisons that are quite misleading for those who do not know the traditions well. The book may still be better than anything else that is out there in book form in the Euro American academy. Nonetheless, it illustrates how far the western study of the origins of Islam has to go if it is to be uprooted from colonialist and collonializing assumptions.

This is the best productivity book I have ever read. The concepts in this book are easy to digest and profound to apply. I listened to it three times and have read it twice so that I can fully absorb all its wisdom. The authors present strategies to become more productive in a sustainable way, such as focusing on process oriented goals (game changer), and this has transformed my relationship with my own productivity and is changing my life. I cannot recommend it enough.

The cover to this book is very intriguing, it states "Start Every Day with More Focus, Confidence, and Energy - by learning to Set the Right Priorities," and "8 Ways to Retrain Your Mind to Optimize Performance at Work and in Life." When I read that, it was an instant buy-in for me. I've read blogs online and heard from people about how to organize my life, and the tips were usually sub-par or not concrete. When I received Organize Tomorrow Today in my mailbox, I was very enthusiastic about getting started on the book. I set a goal for myself to take down notes on each chapter, and I did so. Dr. Jason Selk and Tom Bartown teached me everything I need to know about developing a Performance Mentality. Starting with Chapter One, they talk about how to organize your most important tasks into your "3 Most Important and your One Must," and they gave studies of why this is so effective. That technique I used the same day and over the next week that I was reading the book, and it taught me the to think Priority and Time Maximization. That was only Chapter One, the rest is unbelievable with what you get. There's a lot to gain by reading this book. It deserves my five star rating. Add this to your list, you won't be disappointed.

The title is a bit misleading. It isn't just about organizing tomorrow, but how to revolutionize your life!I am already benefitting from the strategies that have been suggested. One thing I like is that most of them require a matter of mere MINUTES each day to implement.The strategies provoke very high leverage changes that will alter the results you get...BUT, strangely enough, without focusing on results per se, or in the problems you're trying to solve.I read this book twice and now, these changes are really making a difference in all aspects of my life.Do yourself the greatest of favors and read...AND IMPLEMENT what appears in this book.

Loved this book, all 8 topics are very usable. Most of the ideas I've read elsewhere, but the author's did a great job using different analogies and examples that seemed to make each idea really stick. Lots of great psychology usable in all facets of life.

Follow it and you will be better prepared and more confident when you show up for work or for a fun adventure. Read in conjunction with Paul Allen's book on organization.

A wonderful book. Teachs the importance of prioritizing and writing down the most important things to do the day before. Presents new model of getting a better life, focusing on task instead of results. Overall, it worths reading.

My granddaughter would be drawn to the vibrant book color! Dozens of pages are available to creative drawing. Step-by-step diagrams guide the young artist through the development of images associated with Easter: bunnies, carrots, the Great Shepherd with His sheep, Easter eggs, flowers, candy, cake Easter baskets, Bibles, teddy bears, butterflies, rainbows, ducklings hatching, the three most famous crosses at Christ's crucifixion, churches, birds, cupcakes, the crown of thorns, eggs in a nest, hands portrayed as praying, and ducks. As an ardent Christian, I am so pleased that this book portrays sacred images with more secular icons.

This book has step by step instructions to draw several Easter pictures. Some are very simple like a carrot, egg or heart and some of the pictures are more detailed. There are step by step pictures on the left page with a blank page on the right for you to try. This book has a very soft matte cover that is very colorful. When the grandkids saw this book they were off making fun Easter pictures. This is fun for the whole family.

This is a step-by-step book to teach one to draw all things Easter and Spring! bunnies, eggs in a nest, bouquet of flowers, flower wreath, Christian, cupcakes and more. One side gives the steps and the page beside it gives a place to practice the drawings. The cover is soft but very durable and can be wiped with a damp cloth. I draw with the children while using this book. I have learned from this book as well!

This has lots of great little illustrations on how to draw carrots, bunnies, eggs, and more. Each picture has at least 3 steps in it and many have 5 or more. It's great for kids who want to learn to draw. It's even good for adults who might want to try it. On the left side is the step-by-step directions, and on the right side is a full page to practice. The drawings are really cute too.

I love the theme and variety of images. I also love how easy it is to follow the instructions--even novice drawers can recreate these images.

I like this book but for different reasons then "omg it's so great"...I like it because it provides a positive primer while not going to such detail that some theoretical person can read it nodding their head all the time.As a Primer, I would award this 5 stars but as a shelf resource I would give this 3.5 (hence the 4 start rating. I have noticed that the wording is not well edited and thus you have to re-read and fact check certain paragraphs. The code relies on you knowing and understanding libraries well. If you do not, get ready for some homework (which lets face it, you are programming an AVR, you HAVE TO KNOW libraries. You will also be required to understand AVR register programming such as the book does not teach well. Reference datasheets for the chip you are using. Ex: [search for the Atmel 328P COMPLETE datasheet (not the summary) on google] Also,...The book is consistently inconsistent. The author even notes in a few places that this is done on purpose to force a reader into studying outside material. Google comes in handy here and it is not a deal breaker. Again, Elliot is pushing you to use the internet instead of spoon feeding you literally everything. If you have determination and staying power and know how to work through these types of books and speedbumps found there-in, then go get it. If you are looking for a primer that will introduce you to the lingo and various use subjects, go get it. If you expect this to be a single source reference, think again!

If you are past the beginner stages with Arduino and want to play closer to the hardware, or work with Atmel's AVR family chips stand-alone on a breadboard rather than in an Arduino, this is the book for you! Unlike another book I got for that purpose, this one is well written, easy to follow, and appears to have actually been written and edited by competent folks. I've found very few typos, and none that interfered with understanding. The concepts are well explained and presented in a rational order. This may be heavy going if you've never programmed a microcontroller, don't know what a register is, or aren't familiar with binary math or Boolean logic, but the book does explain these to an extent if you haven't run into them before. You'll want the AVR data sheet for reference too (free download, link in the book)...the book has the info required for the projects described, but being able to put that in context with the rest of the processor description is useful...especially if you want to try things not explicitly covered in the book.

I have read the reviews on this book and have seen a variation of opinions. What seems to drive the rating is how well the reader’s expectation of the book matched the experience. I love this book and give it 5 stars because of how I use the book; my expectation and my experience was a match. Make sure you have the proper expectation and you will be happy with this book.Let me start by saying it is my opinion that this book is not for the beginner. If you do not have programming experience, or you have not experimented with electronic circuits or you do not know C this book is not for you (yet). Start with a simple Arduino Uno, buy a kit and get a beginner’s books. I highly recommend books by Simon Monk.I have been coding for 25 years and have been experimenting with electronics since I was eight. I am a hobbyist maker and have written many blogs. I have also written many libraries for a variety of devices and sensors.I have come across the need to have a more finite control over the microcontroller and have more control of performance and timing. If you are familiar enough with the Arduino environment you know that it is suitable for 98% (I made that statistic up but think it is accurate) of the needs makers will come across. But I have come across devices that have such precise timing requirements that I needed to fine tune my code.That’s where this book comes in. I read the datasheets for just about everything I buy. I love to understand every detail of every sensor and microcontroller. Sometimes you uncover “hidden secrets” that you exploit to make your solution exciting and fun. However, this book presents many useful facts about the AVR microcontrollers without the need to dig through the datasheet.The book has given be a much better understanding of the AVR microcontroller as well as added some very useful tools to my bench to solve more complex problems and to write better libraries.I recommend this book to anyone with a medium to advanced level of understanding of AVR programming using the Arduino environment. This book will take your understanding to a much deeper and more advanced level.

This is a really nice book Robert Byrnes to me has always been one of the best teachers.

This was bought as a gift and the recipient was thrilled with the book!

Simple Marvelous.

As soon as my husband started flipping through this book, he was so excited. I surprised him with it on Valentine's Day, and within a couple of minutes, he was checking out trick shots that had always eluded him, shots that he always wanted to learn, some he had never seen before, and some that he was doing incorrectly. It has great diagrams and excellent explanations. We whole-heartedly recommend this book!

Pretty entertaining book, as a hobby pool player it was very entertaining to read and attempt the different shots. Awesome pictures/diagrams for each shot as well. Organized by difficulty and type of shot. Would definitely recommend to anyone interested in the more entertaining aspects of billiards

This is a terrific book. Have had a copy for years. A "must" for every serious would-be trick shot artist. Very well diagrammed shots and great little bits of history mixed in. Very highly recommended.
