For anybody who works in an Agile team or wants to help guide their team to becoming more Agile, I would recommend reading this book. I think the biggest selling point for me was that it actually describes the differences between the various Agile methodologies. With all the different Agile methodologies that exists (and I'm sure there's many more beyond the 4 described in the book), it's easy to feel like you're swimming in an ocean of buzzwords. Luckily, I think the authors recognize the importance of actually "showing" you what Agile looks like and have vignettes sprinkled throughout the book to show you teams that are struggling and eventually teams that are succeeding with AgileThe first methodology they discuss is Scrum. They do this very intentionally because Scrum is probably the easiest Agile methodology to actually "adopt". It has clear practices and more closely resembles "traditional" software development process compared to the other methodologies. The second methodology they discuss is XP which I have heard is highly influential in the Agile field with luminaries such as Kent Beck and Martin Fowler as early leaders of the field, however to be honest I have never heard of anyone working in a software team they would describe as "XP". The most charitable way to interpret this is that many of the XP values, principles, and practices have trickled down into mainstream "Agile" consciousness. The easiest way to summarize XP is "embracing change" and the authors show you how they support that overarching goal through practices such as unit testing to facilitate refactoring and delaying decisions until the last moment. The last part describes the Lean and Kanban methodologies which are closely related. In short, they focus on continuous improvement. Before reading the book, I had heard about a Kanban board and the idea of moving tasks around different columns, but the real eye-opener was their emphasis on the importance of Work In Progress (WIP) limits. They show you how vital it is to have WIP limits and why you need to be careful of ignoring it (which oftentimes happen as they demonstrate).Probably my favorite part of the book is when they describe teams that partially apply Agile methodologies while still retaining much of their legacy software development practice and end up achieving OK but "better than nothing" results. I think it's easy to think of Agile as the end all be all of good software development practice but it's a journey to actually achieving it and I like how they show you the realistic challenges of going from a traditional software development methodology to agile.

I'm a bit more than halfway through this book and it has been immensely helpful. My workplace is kind of agile, with each dev team doing their own thing, which can be frustrating for people who aren't on that team or have to work with all of them at different times like I do. I feel like this book gives me exactly the insight I need to practice agile better, and I'd feel comfortable getting an agile team set up after reading this. I would recommend this book to anyone working in an agile environment and then branching off to specific books afterwards.

Everything about this book is about right. Clear, Lots of (fictional) scenarios where they follow a team story and demonstrate the pros/cons and value of the agile approach. The authors have gone out of their was to make this a fun read with applied theory and situations that help you lock in the theory much better. Nice job.

I was recommended this book by a design leader of mine. Great book if you’re new to agile. Puts practice into scenarios and real-life application. Also easy to look up specific aspects of agile and read up on a need-to-know basis.

The book goes over several different agile methodologies along with their values and practices. There are plenty of examples and charts to help understand agile development. I did feel like the book was more directed at people who are using a waterfall process, while we already use agile at work and I wanted to just learn more.

I've done a lot of Agile reading and training, and this is the best (along with Personal Kanban). Make this your go-to Agile reference text.

A good book overall, gives you a solid foundation. Explains well what Agile should feel like and what makes it tick. The main drawback is that it doesn't describe well enough the basic practices and ceremonies of Scrum. To use the book's own terminology, it lacks "shu"-level rules, but is way too thorogh with "ha"-level concepts. You may need additional resources to actually get to using Scrum in your work

This book is a good resource for anyone who needs a refresher or learning about the Agile methodologies for the first time. The organization of the chapters make it easy to read and retain the information covered. I would recommend this book to anyone who is new to an Agile team or wants to start an Agile team.

A friend of God - this book goes beyond an autobiography. It encourages the reader to seek a close relationship to God, trust what God tells us, and step out in faith. This is illustrated with personal and Biblical examples of prophets who have gone the extra mile. Kim suggests that God stretches our faith, and once we have walked in a particular path with God, God is going to advance our level of faith to a new dimension. One of many examples Kim gave was about Moses having to strike a rock to produce water. He did that and water gushed forth. The next time God told Moses to speak to the rock. Instead of speaking Moses struck the rock - while that was something that Moses knew worked in the past, God was trying to take Moses to a new dimension of faith speaking to the rock. I came away from reading this book with great hope and inspiration. I highly recommend this book.

I never paid too much attention to this prophet until recently and after he died. I find this book most revealing about him as he explains his life at gut level and I understand more perfectly how God uses all the talents and abilities that are given to His own. A worthy read for sure.

Call Me Crazy, but I'm Hearing God's Voice: Secrets to Hearing the Voice of God. Whether you are familiar with Kim Clement's popularity today or want to find out more about him this book will let you see him up close from as early as his youth. God had a strong hand on his life and has woven both the good and bad to turn it all for His glory. Read about his radical personality and how his worldly pursuits changed to Godly passion so like the apostle Paul whose motives redirected to God's heart. Kim will share the mindset you need to have in order to hear from God. Examples from the great prophets of the bible are given as are some characteristics of false prophets.Unmoved by the applause of men, his painful, joyful, and mysterious road he has walked proudly allows him to recant his journey as a prophet. Kim buried the familiar to take on the unknown. He will proudly tell you to be appreciative of your unique design and step out despite the naysayers. God has mightily rewarded his obedience and indeed you will discover why he was a chosen vessel to carry such a heavy weight of responsibility to individuals and prominent national leaders.

This book is a nice testimony of the author's life and call to ministry and it is a good read in that regard, but if you are looking for teaching about "hearing the voice of God" this is not the book.

I really enjoyed this book very much! I wish Kim Clement had told more of his prophesies that have come to pass in the book -- perhaps a bit simpler ones as the few he did mention were very deep! Very insightful, fascinating book and I feel sure the reader will desire to hear God's voice for themselves as much as I do!

There are no words to explain! The persecutions he had to endure, speaks to my heart! The simplicity of his writing, anyone can write a book! I love the fact he quoted my facts from the Roman Catholic Church, the Saints etc. That'sa true prophet! Not condemning or judging!I am looking forward to his return with us, here on Earth! Now, you may 'Call Me CRAZY!' but that's possible according to Luke 18:27 (Whatever is Impossible With men is possible with God'!And also a years years are like one day in God's eyes!' (2Pet.3:8)☺

This book is not what I expected! It was better. I like the freedom that Kim has in this book to be himself.Best Selling Author Robin Bremer Our Blood Covenant & The Power of Communion

I loved Kim's book! Easy to read and simple to understand, it still holds some profound truths about God and the prophetic. Well worth a read to anyone who loves the Lord!! Sheila C. Wilkinson Author of God's Marriage Manual.

A fascinating and well-written biography that is thorough and exhaustively detailed without losing the slightly informal and chatty style that makes it such easy and entertaining reading. In addition to press or other previously published reports, the author has amassed an enormous collection of insider interviews, quotations, observations, anecdotes, and private and public incidents and arranged them chronologically from the Queen's childhood to the present. There are also many interesting insights into how the Palace functions and how the machinery that drives the monarchy operates. An amazing number of the more than 200 sources agreed to be named (though about 40 did not); there was some cooperation from the Palace; and a number of previously private personal papers and correspondence were made available. There are almost 100 pages of acknowledgments, source notes, bibliography and index.Given the richness and abundance of the material, Bedell-Smith, more or less, lets the sources tell the story with only minimal input and interpretations on her part. Some opinions do show through, such as the belief that Prince Phillip is more human than usually perceived and Diana more emotionally damaged (maybe even suffering from mental illness) than usually believed. While, obviously, all members and generations of the Royal family form part of the Queen's story, the biography is very scrupulously Elizabeth II-centric. All others seem to exist only as her relatives and people who impact her life. Prince Charles and Prince William are the only two exceptions as they are the people who are expected to step into her shoes. I found this to be among the more fascinating parts of the book. The contrasts between the styles and personalities of the Queen and her heir are striking and, though they share a sense of duty and dedication, the differences don't promise a seamless transition (especially in the areas of discretion and humility). The author makes valiant attempts at objective scholarship, but a basic fondness and respect comes through her words. Still, she manages to portray the Queen as a human being, not a larger than life heroine. She is simply a human being uniquely disposed by training, experience, and character to maintain the balance between historical tradition and modern relevance--and to do so with more heart and a better mind that she is usually credited with.I had read an excerpt of this book in Vanity Fair and had high expectations. I wasn't disappointed and don't think you will be either.

It seems to me that Amazon has mistakenly mashed together the reviews of two different books. If you look at the reviews for this book, half of them are for a book about Elizabeth I and half of them are reviews of a book about Elizabeth II written by a wholly different author. Please fix this Amazon!

In truth, there are very few people in this world whom I admire as much as I do Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. I have read many books and seen many movies, documentaries and other films, and this book was one of my favorite to read. I find that this book paints a larger yet more defined picture of the longest reigning Queen in British history. HM the Queen is so much more than what many people might believe. Being an Englishman, living among Americans, I've found that from a lot of their points of view, as with many, from the outside looking in HM seems to be not much more than a rather pointless figurehead, an echo of a no longer relevant institution. With that being said, I would most certainly recommend this book, and other books like it as it helps to give a deeper and more dynamic picture of a likewise Queen and institution which she serves.

While I am not into Royalty and see them as an anachronism, I found it very interesting to find the public person so very different than from her private self. The history of her reign, the succession of prime ministers and their relationships with her, follows what I witnessed from afar and was therefore very interesting reading. I am about 10 years her junior and remember the fairy tale wedding, tempered by recent wartime restrictions, and a few years later the coronation with the usual pomp and circumstance.Later on I lived in London for a while and saw her (again, from afar) on several occasions, and she was indeed a very pretty young woman. It was then still the custom to stand up when she appeared on a screen, even in one's own living room. The book is well written but obviously the author is totally smitten with her, rarely finding anything negative to say - understandable since the Queen is still alive, But let's face, nobody is perfect.Whether or not the British people will continue to tolerate the enormous expense of supporting not only their Monarch's household but those of her children and grandchildren, remains to be seen.To sum up, I found the book very interesting reading revealing a private person of great appeal, someone I could really like. But, as is often asked: Why can't she smile more in public?

Great book. The many arduous duties of a monarch are shown with empathy and in great detail. Gives us a good picture of a life well lived, and a woman who puts Duty to her country and her role first, yet manages to maintain a stable family life, within the boundaries of the things she is able to control. There are some factual errors: I have heard people who were at events author descr8ibed recount different truths as they saw and experienced them. Perhaps her sources at some points weren't good. Still a great read.

I was very disappointed. This book doesn’t really tell you anything you didn’t already know about Elizabeth. She is a very discreet person who unexpectedly became Queen and does a marvelous job. She was a very absentee, distant parent but now gets along with her children. Her greatest loves are Phillip, horses and corgis. I find it hard to believe that everyone she has ever had dealings with loves her but the author thinks so. If Elizabeth were running for office, they could release this as a campaign bio!

A very lengthy but interesting book detailing the reign of Queen Elizabeth. I really enjoyed reading this book and learned so much about The English Commonwealth and the Monarchy. GreT book if you are a history buff!

Eminently readable, this is an important look at the Queen's long life. It is a detailed description of not only the Queen but those who have had a place in her life. Her family, politicians, courtiers and friends are given their place in an incredible life .

width: 480,

literalContent: 'A Lexile® measure represents either an individual's reading ability (a Lexile reader measure) or the complexity of a text (a Lexile text measure). Lexile measures range from below 200L for early readers and text to above 1600L for advanced readers and materials. When used together Lexile measure help a reader find books at an appropriate level of challenge, and determine how well that reader will likely comprehend a text. When a Lexile text measure matches a Lexile reader measure, this is called a "targeted" reading experience. The reader will likely encounter some level of difficulty with the text, but not enough to get frustrated. This is the best way to grow as a reader - with text that's not too hard but not too easy.',

this is a quote from the back cover: "The original book, published in 1902, contained more than thirty of Kipling's own brilliant illustrations, all of which have been faithfully reproduced in this Aziloth Books edition." "BRILLIANT" and "FAITHFULLY REPRODUCED" IS TOTALLY INACCURATE. The book itself is not large and the inside illustrations are ALL BLACK AND WHITE and SO RIDICULOUSLY SMALL that the reproductive quality is non-existant. The stories and poems are fine. I am SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED when the ILLUSTRATIONS, just as delightful as Kilings writings are impossible to enjoy..even the larger ones are reproduced so badly, fuzzy B&W lines. Some are as small as <1/2" by <1/1/2 " !!!

This book was released July 1, 2018 and I pre-ordered without reviews as none were available. I was surprised to find 2700 reviews on this book right after Amazon received it in mid-July, 2018. My review is for "this specific book." Amazon has generic reviews listed for this book of all the Rudyard Kipling "Jungle Books" they sell, so we customers do not know what reviews applies to what books. Amazon did this also with Rudyard Kipling's Just So Stories many books Amazon sells. Not acceptable! This specific book, released July 1, 2018, is abridged with illustrations that can help a child understand how a boy could grow up with animals in the wild. Well written story. Definitely for ages 5 and up. I will give it to my grandson, but feel I cannot give it to my granddaughters because it has various illustrations of boy nudity from the back. 1 picture of bare butt would have been enough; the other illustrations could have had foliage discreetly hiding the nudity.

“Just So Stories” is a collection of 12 children’s stories. The theme that runs through the dozen stories is that they are mostly tall-tale answers for questions that children might have. All but two of them focus on animals and nature, and the two divergent stories deal with the origin of written language. Since it’s such a small collection and the titles tend to synopsize the stories, I’ll include the table of contents below, which may give one greater insight into the nature of the stories.1.) How the Whale Got his Throat2.) How the Camel Got his Hump3.) How the Rhinoceros Got his Skin4.) How the Leopard Got his Spots5.) The Elephant’s Child6.) The Sing-Song of Old Man Kangaroo7.) The Beginning of the Armadillos8.) How the First Letter Was Made9.) How the Alphabet Was Made10.) The Crab that Played with the Sea11.) The Cat that Walked by Himself12.) The Butterfly that StampedThe edition that I have has a number of black-and-white graphics (block print and line drawn style)—one or two per story. Given the genre, I imagine most editions have some kind of pictures, but your edition’s graphics may vary. A number of the stories include short poetry—usually at the end. The poetry is part of the original Kipling product and so are likely included in all unabridged editions.I’d recommend this book for those looking for short stories that are relatable to young children.

I first encountered this story as a child, as an animated film on television. It became my favorite story, with the cadence of the narration and the wonderful animation bringing the story to life. I used to watch it every year, just like the Christmas specials and The Wizard of Oz. I've even seen it a few times as an adult, each time reliving a little piece of my childhood. When I saw this book recently, on a list of free books, I grabbed it up so I could carry this little piece around with me all the time. I was kind of afraid to actually read the story, because so often these days books and their movies don't have much in common. However, this is word for word the animated story I have enjoyed so many times; or should I say the animated film is just like the book. The language is lyrical, and there is a rhythm to the story that reinforces this quality. If I had a child, since they don't show the film any more, this would be a regular on the bedtime story list, and not just for the language. The themes of making the best of what happens to you in life, and of protecting your family, are woven throughout this story, as well as using common sense when planning anything you have to do. I'm going to grab The Jungle Book next!

This is a beautiful copy of Just So Stories. As others have mentioned, it is a small volume but the cover is embossed and the pages are gilded. The paper is thin--not due to cheapness but rather it is fine paper. It contains the original illustrations and their captions, and it is just lovely.I ordered this copy because I was unable to find the copy my grandfather had given me as a child, which was a rather sizeable volume complete with colored illustrations on glossy paper. This copy is nothing like that volume, which held up well to the repeated use of a young child. This volume is meant for the caring, gentle hands of an older child or adult. If your child cannot use tissue paper without tearing it, this is not the volume for him or her. That said, if your child loves the stories, this would be a wonderful book to give him or her when she or he grows up.

Kipling wrote for a more leisurely age. The stories make use of a wide vocabulary and literary devices such as repetition and alliteration. It is hard for a modern child to fully understand. But there is something going on at a deeper level. They love the rhythm of Kipling. The story lines are exquisitely crafted. They like to ask questions about the vocabulary. They are fascinated with the subjects of the stories. You can read the story as written, then retell it often in your own words. For instance, I told my son the story of the insatiably curious elephant child this week when he was pestering me with questions. Then pretended to pull his nose. Also at a deep level, Kipling teaches traditional values and shares deep wisdom. The females in his stories (First Woman in The cat who walked alone, the Tailor Bird's wife in Rikki Tiki Tavi) are fully drawn and quite intelligent. It is a classic.
